TriMark USA Customer Story
TriMark USA, a $2.4B leader in kitchen equipment and services, needed a better way to evaluate its freight network, make smarter use of its transportation assets, and identify opportunities inside complex, fragmented transportation data. After evaluating multiple consulting firms, TriMark chose NT Logistics for a network analysis engagement grounded in freight knowledge, business intelligence, and recommendations designed for execution.
The Starting Point
A freight spend report can tell leadership what was paid. Cost-to-serve helps explain why it was paid.
TriMark’s transportation network involved many lanes, carrier relationships, service requirements, and operating variables. NT’s analysis went beyond a total freight spend number to examine where costs were being created and which parts of the network offered room for better design.
Cost-to-serve was central to the analysis. NT examined freight cost across lanes, customer requirements, service expectations, carrier mix, accessorials, and operating details.
The Decision
TriMark evaluated multiple consulting firms, including national providers. TriMark USA CEO Terry O’Brien wanted an industry-trusted team with deep transportation knowledge.
“What mattered to us is that we had someone who not only had the expertise but that knew our industry vertical and that had a track record of pragmatic success.”
Terry O’Brien, CEO, TriMark USA
The Approach
NTelligence is NT Logistics’ analytics framework for understanding and improving network performance by starting with the sources of freight cost and inefficiency. For TriMark, NTelligence helped evaluate transportation data, organize network inputs, and identify operational and financial opportunities throughout the freight network.
The Partnership
NT Logistics partnered with the TriMark team throughout the engagement. The work combined transportation knowledge, BI resources, dashboard reporting, network modeling, and working sessions with TriMark’s internal team. The benefit of this approach was getting analysis that TriMark could evaluate in its own operating language.
“What stood out to me about NT’s analysis was just how pragmatic and how turnkey it was. It was easy for my team to understand the results and the recommendations because everything was delivered in our vernacular.”
Terry O’Brien, CEO, TriMark USA
The Pace
Although the engagement was originally scoped as a seven-month project, NT Logistics completed the analysis in approximately three to four months. TriMark also saw progress within the first month.
“They understood our urgency, and what was supposed to be a seven-month project was completed in three to four months. Given the complexity of our network, the number of variables and scenarios that we challenged them with, it was remarkable.”
Terry O’Brien, CEO, TriMark USA
Kickoff call, data list shared, and carrier data normalized from multiple sources into a single defensible model.
Pattern identification, customer working sessions, follow-up data pulls, and recommendations drafted in the customer’s vernacular.
Prioritized action plan, savings sized by category, disruption rated, and a boardroom-ready deliverable.
The Outcome
With NT, TriMark has an operational picture of its freight network and recommendations grounded in real transportation experience.
“The outcome for us was exactly what we needed. The results were delivered early, the results were very credible because my team was partnered with the NT folks all along the way, and there really wasn’t any smoke or over hype.”
Terry O’Brien, CEO, TriMark USA
When asked to sum up the engagement in one word, he said, “Credible.”
